Exploring my interest in fashion and the creative campaigns that inspire the portfolio I plan to build.
Have you ever watched an ad that made you consider buying something you didn’t know you needed until then? Maybe it was the music or just the overall vibe that made you stop scrolling. Regardless, I know this feeling a bit too well!
I have always had an interest in fashion, whether its tailoring my own style or admiring how others use their style to express themselves. So, as I learn more about the world of marketing, I like to pay attention to how different fashion brands connect with us through their campaigns.
As someone who wants to pursue a marketing career, I want to explore how I can use my interests to develop my own professional skills and build a portfolio that will help me explore different creative opportunities. With this, I plan to use Alyssa in Progress as a way for me to document my progress while building my portfolio!
More than Clothes
When I think about fashion marketing, I think that brands work to sell more than product to their consumers. Instead, they sell an lifestyle or feeling that resonates with their audiences.
All of the brands that we wear have certain colours or imagery that they use to standout amongst other brands. These identities become something their audiences incorporate into their own lives as well, influencing how they dress/express themselves.
A Campaign that Connected to Me
One campaign that quickly captured my attention and inspired my own thoughts was the “Better in Denim” campaign from Gap, featuring KATSEYE.
This campaign featured the members dancing to the throwback hit, “Milkshake” by Kelis, with each member styled in different outfits that seemed to perfectly match their own styles.
I really like how Gap was able to combine music, fashion an pop culture all in one video to tell a story. By featuring KATSEYE, the brand can appeal to younger consumers while also appealing to older consumers through the early 2000s vibe the music delivers. By including such energetic choreography, Gap is also able to promote the quality of their clothes in a very engaging way.

What I Can Learn From This
I find it very interesting that simply choosing the right music or visuals go a very long way when it comes to sending a message or influencing how that message is received. It makes me so curious about what other ideas were considered and how different the end result would have looked like if the creative process was different.
To me, this highlights the importance of understanding your target audience. Every creative decision, from the message the brand is trying to communicate to the visuals they use to do so, it is important that they resonate with the people they are trying to reach.
This also shows me how rewarding the combination of elements, such as dance and fashion, can create something unique and memorable. I will definitely try to incorporate this when developing my own portfolio and creative projects too!
Building My Portfolio
Through my own marketing experiences during my university journey, I have been able to experiment with develop my social media marketing, graphic design and content creation skills.
However, I wish to expand my experience beyond university leadership experiences. I wish to start exploring more professional opportunities in industries that align with my interests.
As I begin building my portfolio in this way, I want to explore beyond my current skills and knowledge. I would love to be involved in the process behind developing a campaign like Gap’s, brainstorming with a team of like-minded people to deliver brand messages in such an fun way.
As someone who pays close attention o detail myself, I would live to be involved in designing content and finding different ways to creatively communicate. I also want to use this as an opportunity to challenge myself to take on personal projects that I can use to add to my current portfolio, such as mock-up campaigns for my favourite everyday brands.
